When to Visit Fethiye: Weather and Sea Temperature Month by Month

Updated:

There is no single answer to when to visit Fethiye: swimming, hiking, visiting ancient sites or planning a quiet long stay each point to different months. This guide summarises Fethiye's weather season by season and month by month, explains which period suits which kind of holiday, and tells you where to check the sea temperature.

Fethiye's climate in brief

Fethiye is a coastal town with a Mediterranean climate: summers are hot, long and dry; winters are mild and rainy. Fethiye Municipality's climate action plan also states that the district gets more rain in winter than in summer, with July the driest and December the wettest month.

We deliberately do not give degrees or millimetres in this guide. In the official long-term statistics published by the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) we could not find a separate station table for Fethiye, and province-wide values may not reflect the coastal town centre. In the days before your trip, MGM's district forecast page for Fethiye is the most reliable reference.

Fethiye month by month

December, January, February: winter

This is the wettest time of the year. In the coastal town centre winters are generally mild, but expect rainy days and cool evenings. Layered clothing and a rain jacket are usually enough. Fethiye town centre is not just a summer resort but a district centre where people live all year round; everyday shopping, markets and town life carry on in winter. Seasonal services such as beach businesses, boat trips and some nightlife venues may run a different winter schedule, so check with them before you go. If you are thinking of spending the winter here, read our guide to winter in Fethiye and long stays.

March, April, May: spring

Rainfall decreases, the weather warms up and the countryside is green. Spring is considered one of the best times for the Lycian Way, which starts at Hisarönü (Ovacık) near Fethiye. At Saklıkent Gorge the walkable section grows as the meltwater recedes; the deeper parts usually become accessible in the summer months. Towards the end of May the weather approaches summer heat.

June, July, August: summer

This is Fethiye's hottest, driest and busiest period. For a holiday centred on the sea, beaches and boat trips, summer is the obvious choice. Because of the midday heat, it is more comfortable to leave long walks for early morning or late afternoon. Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism extended the visiting hours of ancient sites such as Tlos and Kayaköy for the summer season (1 May – 1 October in 2026); check current hours with the official source before you go.

September, October, November: autumn

September is usually still summery and dry. Rain starts to increase in October, and November moves towards the winter pattern. October and November are also good for hiking, as heat and humidity ease. A common question is "Is Fethiye open in November?" The town centre is lived in all year, but it is worth confirming the schedules of seasonal businesses in advance.

Sea temperature in Fethiye

We could not find an officially published long-term average of sea temperature for Fethiye, so we do not give monthly figures. Numbers circulating online are mostly model estimates, and sources often disagree. Before your trip, check MGM's current sea temperature page and the Fethiye forecast. Keep in mind that the water temperature can vary not only by month but also with wind, currents and the bay you choose.
